FAMILIES BELONG TOGETHER - PROTESTS JUNE 30
PLEASE PROTEST
In what was a small ray of hope in what has been a heart-breaking situation, a federal judge ordered the reunification of thousands of parents and kids, forcibly separated by the current administration. The emergency order said that babies and toddlers through age 4 had to be back with their parents within 14 days, kids 5 and over, in 30. The ACLU, who brought the case against this horrific policy, argued, “This cruelty and utter contempt for the welfare of children and the rule of law, cannot stand. Our government cannot be allowed to hold children hostage in order to sabotage the legal claims of people seeking refuge. “
But so far, just a handful of families have been reunited. The current administration had no real system for tracking the kids, to say nothing of one tracking kids and parents concurrently. The little girls, toddlers, and babies were farmed out all over the country under the cover of darkness to hide the horror of the policy from the press and public. In doing so, the government lost track of the least unfortunate of the children. I shudder to imagine what might have become them. And it breaks my heart that some of the parents were immediately returned home without due process…AND WITHOUT THEIR KIDS by an administration that couldn’t care less about them.
So those of us who DO care are taking to the streets again. Hundreds of thousands are expected to demonstrate across the country. There are protests planned at over 700 locations across the country. And somewhere, hidden away from the press and the public, there’s a traumatized little girl who might get to see her mom again. And I promise you, that if she knew what you did for her, she and her mom both would be eternally grateful. @blueravenartist
